"Help us save this precious coastline now."

Ironically it was when we were removing some of the damaged old sea defences on Brownsea Island that we made a remarkable discovery. A treasure trove of kilns, bricks and tiles dating back as far as the sixteenth century revealed a fascinating part of the Island’s past.

The kilns hark back to the Island’s industrial heritage as a producer of copperas, a valuable dye for use in the textile industry. But this heritage could soon be lost for ever. If we experience another harsh winter, it could be swept away altogether. We urgently need to raise the funds to interpret everything before it’s too late. That’s why I hope you can make a donation to the National Trust’s Neptune Coastal Campaign today.
